Vegetable Au Gratin

Tried this Vegetable Au Gratin for our Christmas breakfast this year !! We liked every bit of it, the golden cheese at the top,, creamy white sauce, fresh vegetables, that cheesy smell along with garlic bread.. Yum Yum Yum.... !! And those lovely freshly ground black pepper!!! I have added it before as well as after baking..and wow !! loved the aroma!!  We really had a memorable Christmas Breakfast !!

Ingredients:

Chopped and boiled mixed vegetables - 2 cups
(carrots , cauliflower, green peas, corns, french beans)

For The White Sauce

  • Butter - 2 tbsp
  • Garlic chopped-1/2 tsp
  • Plain Flour - 2 tbsp
  • milk - 1 1/2 cups
  • Grated processed cheese - 1/4 cup
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper powder to taste

For The Topping

  • Grated processed cheese - 1/2 cup

To prepare the white sauce, heat the butter in a pan and fry the garlic for 15 seconds.

Add the flour and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the milk gradually, stirring continuously so that no lumps are formed. Add ½ cup of water and mix well. Bring to a boil and add the cheese, salt and pepper and mix well. Keep aside.

Now you need to combine the boiled vegetable and white sauce and bake them. To do this, combine the vegetables and the white sauce and mix well.

Pour into an oven proof bowl and sprinkle the grated cheese on top.

Bake in a pre-heated oven at 200°c (400°f) for 10 to 15 minutes till the cheese melts and is lightly browned.

Serve with warm garlic bread and tangy tomato egg soup.
