Dim Posto - Duck Egg in Poppy Seed Gravy

Duck Egg is a delicacy in Bengali Cuisine and posto bata (Poppy seed paste) is something that any bengali will just swear by!! So what happens when these two meet?? A delicious duck egg curry, or in Bengali ' Haa(n)ser dimer posto'. I have added some mustard paste too, but planning to omit the same next time I try it. Recipe is very simple, please have it with plain rice and not with roti, that way you will kill the dish.

Ingredients:

  • Duck Egg - 3
  • Ginger Paste - 1 tsp
  • Mustard Paste - 1 tbsp
  • Poppy Seed paste - 1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli Paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Kalojire / Kalonji Seeds - a pinch
  • Salt, turmeric powder
  • Sugar - a pinch

Boil the eggs, then prick with a fork. Marinate with salt, turmeric and red chilli powder.

Fry the eggs in a little oil and keep aside.
Put kalojire / kalonji seeds in the same oil, now add the ginger paste, red chilli powder, turmeric and salt and saute lightly, sprinkle some water if needed.
Add the lemon juice, then add the mustard paste. Stir continuously.

Add the fried eggs and mix with masalas. Add little water and let it boil.

When the water dries put the poppy seed paste ( posto bata ) mixed with little water ... stir well and remove. You may add a pinch of sugar, if you like.

Enjoy with plain rice.
